WOKB radio interview, Orlando – June 30, 2015

I had the pleasure of talking with Tammy Green from WOKB’s Let’s Talk About It with Tammy Green yesterday. We discussed many issues about educator sexual abuse and ways to prevent this epidemic. S.E.S.A.M.E. president Terri Miller pleasantly surprised me by calling in, and the question she asked me stopped me in my tracks. I’m so grateful for opportunities such as this to raise awareness.

Training for Osceola County foster parents – April , 2014

Kids in the foster care system can sometimes be at risk for falling prey to predators who seek vulnerable victims. I had the opportunity to speak with a group of foster parents at Osceola’s Children’s Home Society in Kissimmee, Florida about how to talk to children of varying ages about safe touch, what grooming really looks like, and what to do if suspicions arise. My hope is that each parent walked away with an increased sense of awareness of the prevalence of educator sexual abuse as well as some new strategies for keeping their children safe.

PostStar.com – 2005

In 2005, I was interviewed by Brendan McGarry from PostStar.com about my experience:

“She described herself as the perfect candidate for sexual “grooming.”

She was an insecure 14-year-old. She didn’t have many friends. After her parents divorced, she lived with Mom. There was no real relationship with Dad.

The “groomer” was her popular ninth-grade science teacher, married and in his early 30s.

At first, she was flattered by the attention. He invited her to eat lunch in his classroom, gave her passes to visit during study halls, bought her small gifts, showered her with compliments. After school and on the weekends, he took her on trips to the arcade and amusement park. Occasionally, other students tagged along.”
